I don't think Kevin explained how we figured ut the fridge was broken. RV refrigerators are traditionally ammonia-absorption models. They use evaporating and condensing ammonia to cool (this is one reason RVs need to be levelled--so the ammonia does't just pool).

We discovered ours was broken because when we opened it it smelled like month old urine and didn't dissapate for a good hour after that. Getting the fridge out and into the dumpster was a trial. We had to dismantle the door frame and use crow bars to angle it out. Then it had to be slid out on a long board, and hefted into the dumpster. Whew!

Fortunately, my sister Kristen has a good-sized dorm fridge. So all we need is an inverter to run it off the battery!
