RV Travel Log

On the road again... - 11/22/2003

I haven't been very good at posting things to the travel log lately, as many folks have told me. The reason, or at least my excuse, is we stayed at the same RV campground for 6 weeks, which was AWESOME but not always exciting enough to write about. We finally got on our way again last Sunday, heading to Salt Lake City on Monday. Our impetus for moving is I have a job interview at Microsoft (my 4th one). Erin is coming with me this time so she can check out Seattle and see if it's a place she wouldn't mind living in.

Before our trip, on our way from southwestern Colorado to Salt Lake City, we swung by Arches National Park. This is a very cool park; I only wish it hadn't been so cold and windy (hiking was no fun) and that we had more time (only 3 hours there until the sun went down). The campsites were beeaaauutiful - I want to go back and camp there a couple of nights.

We left on Tuesday. Wednesday I interviewed with the Windows Client group for an SDET position working on the Avalon product. Thursday I interviewed with the Flight Simulator group for a cool SDE position. Friday we checked out Seattle. Saturday we flew home; I'm writing this while waiting in the Salt Lake City airport for Erin to arrive on her flight. I've been waiting 4 hours now.

I like positions I interviewed for, but I especially love the Flight Sim job. I'm incredibly anxious to hear the results. And if I don't get a job from either one of them, I think it's time for a career change, because I obviously don't know how to do an interview.

During our trip, Microsoft put us up at the Marriott Residence Inn at Redmond Town Center. This means we had a studio suite with a full kitchen, couple of couches, room service, and a full spread hot breakfast in the morning. We drove a silver Oldsmobile Alero and ate like royalty. While I love these all-expenses-paid interviews trips, I really do wish I would get a job this time.

What now? Visiting family in Salt Lake City, then on to Zion National Park. We're planning on hitting Las Vegas for Thanksgiving. Mmmmm, Bellagio buffet.......
